Why do they call soccer/football uniforms kits?
It sounds extremely stupid and makes completely no sense.
The term ‘kit’ relates back to that the team uniforms were not simply the top but a group of items or kit that each player would require for a game.
Shirt, shorts, socks, and each players boots would in professional teams all be prepared by the team staff and be laid out ready for the players before they arrived at a ground.
The person responsible for that was generally also termed the ‘kit manager’
