Who should be named manager of Blackburn Rovers? What do you think of Alan Pardew as a manager?

Will he be a good fit for Rovers? If not, suggest someone else. I would have preferred Martin Jol but he has already signed for Hamburg.
johnjones: But Pardew did lead West Ham to the FA Cup final in 2006, and almost avoided relegation with Charlton (beat West Ham 4-0 once). I like him, I think he’s good enough to be a Premier League manager.
Sam Allardyce: Does anyone really like his physical, long-ball style of football. Will the current Rovers players adapt to it, or will wholesale changes be necessary?

I want to see someone who can take the club forward, and build on Mark Hughes’ achievements. The preferred candidate would need to be someone well respected in the game, with the right profile for pulling in top players.
I would have liked Alan Shearer to have been given the job, as he would have attracted a lot of quality signings, especially if he had a strong back room staff to assist him.
Unfortunately, he has pulled out of the running.
The other candidates: Allardyce, Ince, McLaren, Ten Cate, do not having that pulling power, or have been discredited in their previous jobs.
I am not sure about Alan Pardew. He is a good manager, but I would want to see someone with more dynamism about him, or with fresh, innovative ideas.
I would not have wanted Martin Jol. Good manager, wrong profile for Rovers.
So I’m a bit stuck. As, it appears, is the Rovers Chief Executive John Williams.
Mike Newell’s name keeps coming up, but as he blew the whistle on dodgy dealings whilst at Luton Town, he appears to have been blacklisted, and Rovers would struggle to do business with other clubs if he was in charge.
A former Rovers hero, Henning Berg, would be a popular choice, and a steady hand at the helm. I am not sure if he is the right man to take them on to the next stage.
Two current senior players, Brad Friedel and Tugay, would also be popular choices. However, with no management or coaching experience, they would either be inspired appointments, or total disasters.

So who to pick? There is no shortage of interest, but it needs to be the right man (not another Brian Kidd).

One name I haven’t heard much is David O’Leary. He has management expereice at the top level with Leeds and Villa, and his teams play football in the right manner.
