Germany vs. Argentina – FIFA World Cup Match Preview
One of the most looked forward to matches of this round, Diego Maradona’s team will be once again up against Germany in the quarter finals after triumphing over Mexico. The last time Germany had a win was in the penalty shoot out, but four months ago Gonzalo Higuain gave Argentina the triumph. Who will go forward to the sixth match after Sundays important game?
Argentina might be getting revenge this time, who are on the list of the main contenders to achieve this years title. Germany has a powerful and quick team with killer gunners, but on saying that Argentina have displayed that their ball abilities are something to fear. Lionel Messi has so far been unable to get a goal, maybe his desire for glory will be satisfied upon a Teutonic feast.
There are no changes in the scheme
There have been many doubts in reference to Angel Di Maria’s presence, heard through the week, as El Flaco has not been really determinant for Maradona and facing Germany he needs all the advantages he can get. Real Madrid’s new star can give Maradona versatility and a strong field of view, but Argentina’s focus on the advance (with Veron, Tevez and Messi working together at their best) has put Di Maria to a lesser role. Maxi Rodriguez’s being in the team has nearly been confirmed, even though Maradona is questioning whether Veron should be included as part of the starting squad.
At the start of January Maradona was pleased on the pillars of his team “It’s Jonas Gutierrez, Mascherano, Messi and eight more” was what he said. But the African experience gave Nicolas Otamendi the post as right winger, and this is how Maradona could get the final defending position he didn’t have. Even so Jonas may take Di Maria’s position, and if Maxi steps in for Veron, Argentina will have a lot of presence and speed, but will be not as strong in regards to ability and finesse. Potentially another situation that could arise
is for young Javier Pastore to take a position in the starting eleven, as each ball he played with in South Africa emitted a confident, quiet vibe.
Sergio Romero will have to be confident between the posts to block Germany’s strong attacks, as each player in the Teutonic team can release a super powerful shot when it’s the least expected. Samuel’s coming back to the back line will give a harder defense to a team that is known by its talent to come upon open spaces all over the place. Javier Mascherano, Argentina’s captain, will have a difficult time putting a stop to
Germany’s creativity, and the outcome of the game will likely have a lot to do with how he performs.
Argentina has expanded from the friendly match, that 4 months again took place against Germany. The best striker is Gonzalo Higuain in this competition and he will be on the look out to open a larger gap from David Villa. The net has already been experienced by Carlos Tevez and when he gets in the mode, there’s not much those he is up against can do about it.
Another giant blocks the way
Germany triumphed in eliminating England from the quarter finals, and each member of the team had the opportunity to display there abilities in the game. Germany is in great shape for this competition, with a powerful and adaptable team. Their players are conscious of the fact Argentina is coming into this match as a final and therefore have been avidly watching each move the Argentina players make. With this in mind, a talented player such as Pastore turning up unexpectedly may give Maradona the edge right away.
Joachim Low will more then likely have to go without Cacau, for Stuttgart’s striker is going through very painful abdominal problems and it is highly likely he will be unable to play.
Mezut Ozil is one of the players on the team that is expected to do well, he has a great left foot and keeps his cool for one-on-one situations. His interaction with Schweinsteiger has been decisive for Germany to go forward at this point. Bayern Munich’s midfielder drew to everyone’s attention to watch out for Argentina’s attempt to sway referees, as “they have become known for there never ending wish to influence the referee’s calls” he said.
Germany achieved there ticket for the semi finals in 2006 after a penalty shoot out that was very controversial, and Germany’s goalkeeper prepared a list that scrutinized the actions of every single Argentinean shooter. Now Maradona will be expectantly wanting to finish the game in 90 minutes, are they going to be able to achieve the worlds top four once again?
